Japanese Ambassador: Deeply Moved and Committed to Supporting Peace Restoration at Cambodia-Thailand Border

(Oddar Meanchey, Cambodia – August 1, 2025) — The Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, Mr. Ueno Atsushi, expressed deep concern over the humanitarian impact of the ongoing military tensions between Cambodia and Thailand during a diplomatic visit to the affected border areas today.

The visit, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mr. Prak Sokhonn, was attended by foreign diplomats and representatives of international organizations. Delegates inspected conflict-affected areas and met with civilians displaced by recent hostilities.

“I am deeply moved by the extent of the destruction and the suffering of those who have been forced to flee their homes,” said Ambassador Ueno. “I offer my heartfelt condolences to those who have lost loved ones, and my deepest sympathy to all who are affected by this crisis.”

He reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Cambodia’s efforts to restore peace and stability along the border. “The Japanese government stands ready to work closely with Cambodia to help bring about a peaceful resolution and support humanitarian efforts.”

The diplomatic mission to the border underscores the Cambodian government’s efforts to keep the international community informed of the realities on the ground. The Royal Government of Cambodia, under the leadership of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, has emphasized transparency and diplomatic engagement as it seeks peaceful solutions in line with international law.
